Just a little Lovin' for a Salvation Army cast-off!

.

While I was looking for pot and pan lids at the Salvation Army this weekend, I found this little girl looking all raggedy and lonely looking. For a twenty dollar bill, I brought her home. Did I take a before picture? Of course not. Only organized minds would think of that. Let me describe her. She had only two drawer pulls hanging off off of her. It didn't matter because her drawers didn't open anyway. She was an oak piece with a few gouges, scratches and sad tears. Okay, no tears but she was pitiful. I had a couple of hours today and dressed her up all pretty like in a nice turquoise outfit. New knobs from Lowe's and some work on her drawers so she functioned. Two hours later, she's sitting in the garage all dressed up and no where to go. Maybe she needs to live at my beach house under the beachy planked flag that I painted from the same color of paint. It's Woodlawn Blue from Benjamin Moore. Smitten.

Fence Post Flowers from upcycled junk.

The Trash Can Annie's have been at it again! My friend Carol and I hit the thrift stores looking for old pot and pan lids, serving plates and everything trashy and metal. We even had to drink a few beers for the sake of our project. (We needed the beer cans) We were making flowers to put out along our fences and on stakes in our gardens. Carol is really the crafty one. She lets me use her power tools. My husband hides his from me. We didn't get done but here are some pictures of a few we did and some Carol did on her own. All we did is use tin snips to cut the lids after we pulled off the lid tops. Then we started layering pieces and crimped a few with some crimping shear. We painted some and left some shabby. Next we drilled a hole and screwed them together. The best part is - no watering needed with these flowers!

Here are some more from Etsy stores I found on the internet!

More staging pcitures of Cabin Rental

Here are the final pictures from my staging job a few months ago of that converted apartment above the horse barn. It is now a vacation/football game weekend rental. We did it most of it with thrift store finds and paint. Of course, I cannot find my before photos of these rooms. But I hope you enjoy the after pictures and it encourages you to keep thrifting!

Shabby Chic Horse Barn? Why yes, I think it's lovely!

We used to have horse. Four horses to be exact. My husband built the barn himself. It didn't look like this barn. And now, seeing this, I told him I miss our horses. He eyed me suspiciously. "We haven't had horses in 10 years. What's up with that?" I showed him this picture. He rolled his eyes. "We have a dog. Buy her a doghouse and decorate it." He just doesn't get it.

Knock off from the Lettered Cottage

The Lettered Cottage is my all time favorite blog. Layla and Kevin are the most talented couple I know. I love what they do with salvaged wood. So...I tried my hand at making the planked American flags I saw in her post on mantels displays. Here's how mine turned out. I should have displayed them pretty. I haven't decided what to do with them! Maybe sell them on Etsy?

Camp House Re-do

Many months ago I did a staging and decorating job for some clients who wanted to rent out the little apartment above their horse stables as a vacation get-a-way. The cabin is on their property which backs up to the lake and renter's would have full use of the stables and riding trails around the house for an equestrian vacation. The stables/camp house is also located in a huge college football town so we wanted to target that group of would be lodgers as well. The kitchen was painted a blue color that wasn't unattractive in itself but was dirty and badly in need of a paint job. We had no idea what color was used originally, so decided to paint the entire kitchen white. We were working with a very limited budget, so the owner got a lot of the decorations from thrift stores and I brought in many as well. I'm posting the before and after photos for you to see.

Next post we'll look at the living room and bedrooms!

Dining room update

Since my bed is still unmade, I'll post my dining room pictures today. I bought the two black pieces in my dinng room before I decided to do a white and linen house. Now I was perplexed with what to do with the dark dinng room colors. No way was my generous husband going to let me buy a new buffet and hutch when I had just purchased these less than a year ago. So I tried to incorporate the dark with white dishes in the hutch and lighter chair back slipcovers. I also had to deal with a BIG window that looked out to a brick wall. We live in a garden home and our neighbor's wall is about 3 feet from my window. Cozy. Since I crave light, covering up the window wasn't an option. I disguised it the best I could while still keeping it open.

My Bathroom re-do and Master Bedroom

Happy Father's Day to my wonderful Dad and to my sweet husband. I hope you all got to spend the day with your father...whether through pictures, memories or best of all - real life. I live over 800 miles away from my Dad and wish I could have been at my brother's where I'm sure he grilled out and the family got together. My heart was there in spirit! Here are some promised updates of my master bath. We took the big long mirror off over the sink and used old tin frames that we had a mirror cut to fit. We replaced the dated faucets. My husband put beadboard up around the tub which reads as yellow in the picture, but is really an antique white in person. Most everything else is repurposed from flea markets.

While you were sleeping... what happened while my blog was in a coma.

I loved the movie "While you were sleeping." My blog has been sleeping for nearly a year now. Sometimes a blogger just get's burned out or bites off more than she can chew. Or lazy. But I have been busy doing something in the last year. I don't know where to start. So I decided to start with my house. Like most of you, I'm constantly editing and adding. I don't know what it looked like last August but I'll give you a tour now. This will take a couple of posts. I'll start with the main rooms today.
I guess I'm an industrial beach style sort of girl these days. In my next post, we'll visit the bedrooms. Hopefully, it won't take me another year to get the beds made!
